About transport and migration

About transport and migration
Transport and migration is a set of procedures that make it easier and faster to migrate changes between environments. For example, if you have made changes in the development environment, you can use Transport and migration to deploy these changes to the test environment.
Transport and migration is also used to clone a site or application domain. For example, a customer can create a copy of a site and deliver the copy to a consultant. The consultant can then use the copy to recreate the customer’s environment.
Packing sites and application domains
The first step in Transport and migration is to pack a site or application domain. When you pack a site/application domain, you create a package file that includes all applications in the site/application domain. See Packing sites and application domains.
Cloning sites and application domains
When you clone a site or application domain you import the package file created in the source environment to the target environment. See Cloning sites and application domains.
Migrating application domains
Migration is used to migrate changes from one application domain to another. For example, if you have made changes in the development environment, you can migrate these changes to the test environment.
When you migrate an application domain you import the package file created in the source environment to the target environment. During the migration, the configurations of the StreamServer applications in the source environment are deployed to the StreamServer applications in the target environment. See Migrating application domains.
