Number pattern elements

Can be used with sign and/or currency number pattern elements.

Syntax

num{…} or num(<locale name>){…}

 

Element
	Requires a digit (leading or trailing zeros added if needed).
z	Requires a digit or space, and can be used with fixed width fonts for aligning a column of numbers.
Z	As z but renders a space in the output after the digit. (If the system allows it, it is better to specify decimal alignment instead of using Z to output spaces.)
	Use after . to allow for a bit of flexibility in the number decimals (min-max).
v, V	Use instead of . to allow for omitted or special decimal separator.
,	Used to indicate the grouping of digits in a number. For example, z,z9 indicates a grouping of two by two digits, the more common grouping with three by three digits is indicated by using z,zz9. The grouping separator output depends on locale. E.g. for Swedish a space is output between the groups.
.	Indicates the decimal position in the pattern. Outputs a locale dependent decimal separator (For example, "," for Swedish.)

For example, z,zz9.zzz,z describes a common decimal number formatting. It uses a locale dependent punctuation for grouping (of three digits both in the integer and decimal parts), and a locale dependent decimal separator. The input data 123456789.123456789 formatted with this Picture Clause returns 123 456 789,123 456 789 if the locale has space as grouping separator and "," as decimal separator.
