Data properties

 

Substitution type	The substitution type. Data source – Evaluates an XPath expression and returns the result. For example, the XPath to a Message field. Repository – Links to a file of RTF, LXF and XHTML format. The linked contents is reloaded for every instance of the output. See Adding external content. Field – Page number or Number of pages. (The latter should only be used in Content Dependent Fragments). SubTotal – Sums the values of a specific previously rendered and repeated field. (Should only be used in table overflow headers and footers). External Content – Links to a Story in another StoryTeller document, or to a file of RTF, LXF and XHTML format. See Adding external content. Translation – Searches for a value according to current language and the key you have specified, in the translation tables you have specified for the Process. Language is specified in the Character properties for the substitution. To use the processing language, the Language property must be set to Default. For more information, see Translations. Metadata – Links to a metadata name defined for a Document Type. This is useful: • If a metadata value is edited in the Ad-hoc application and you want the value to be rendered in the output. • If you want a value set by Composition Center preview proofing to be rendered in the output.
Text type	The text type of the substitution: Raw – Text is rendered as it is. Rich – A filter is applied that enables rich text for the contents of the substitution. Normally you will build or modify the rich content with scripting and render the contents via a substitution where this option is specified. Data link	For substitution type Data source, the XPath expression that evaluates into a value. For example, the value of a Message field or variable. Error is triggered when expression returns 0 or multiple values. See Specifying output format.
URI	For substitution type Repository or External Content, the URI to a file.
Field type	For substitution type Field, specify the field type. Currently only Page number and Number of pages (for use in Content Dependent Fragments) are available.
Data for calculation	For substitution type SubTotal, specify which field should be used for calculating the subtotal value.
Format	The output format of the substitution value. See Specifying output format. By clicking the browse button, the Advanced Text Format dialog opens. See Advanced Text Format dialog.
Story name	For substitution type External content, specify the Story name.
Key	For Translation substitution type, this key, together with the current language, identifies an entry in the translation files you have specified.
Sample data	A sample data displayed in design-time. If
XPath	For a Repeater, the XPath expression that evaluates into a node set, for example block instances.
Sorting criteria	The sorting criteria for a Repeater. See Sorting data
Filter XPath	An XPath expression filtering the selected data See Filtering data.
Location	Text flow mode for Repeater, Switch, and Table. Paragraph – Each instance is rendered on a separate paragraph. Inline – Instances are rendered inline with adjacent text.
