Text

You can enter text in:

•	Story frames

•	Stories (in Story view)

•	Text objects

To enable text to flow between Story frames, the text must be entered in a Story. You can enter it either directly inside the Story frame or in the Story view.

If you add text outside of a Story, it is rendered on the page in the identical location for each instance of the page that is created.

You can:

•	Add a text object directly on a page.

•	Add text inside any closed object, e.g. a rectangle.

•	Paste texts from the clipboard. When pasting text copied from a PDF file, you must use the Paste special option, see Paste Special dialog.

•	Drag blocks and fields from the message that are substituted with text during runtime.

To activate text editing

There are several ways to activate text editing:

•	Click in a Story frame, text object, table cell or in the Story view to activate the text insertion cursor.

•	Select a text segment.

•	Select Story frame, text object, table cell and press the F2 key.

To de-ativate text editing

Press the Esc key to select the object containing the text, or click outside the object.

When editing text, you can traverse the content upwards by pressing the Esc key, moving one step up to the object’s parent at a time, selecting the whole outer scope of the edited object. The selection in the trees, for example in the Story view, follow the View selection. For example, if you are in text editing mode in a table cell, pressing Escape key will select the current cell in the table. Pressing Esc once more selects the table, i.e. not all cells are selected, but the table object. Traversing ends on last content level when Esc exits the text editing mode. To find the scope of a link within a text, you can place the text cursor somewhere in the link, and press Esc.

 

To make a shape a text object

1	Select a closed vector object, for example a rectangle.

2	Right-click the object and select Text > Add Text. The shape becomes a Text object.

3	Click inside the object and write text.

To share a stand-alone text as a Story

Right-click the object that contains the text and select Text > Share Story. A new Story is created and listed in the Stories panel.

To link a Story to a text object

1	Right-click the text object and select Text > Link Story.

2	In the Select Story dialog, select the Story to link to. The text object becomes a Story frame linking to the Story.
