Adding objects You can select the object type to use on the page by selecting the corresponding toolbar button. By double-clicking the toolbar button for an object you can add several objects of this type without having to click the toolbar button for each object. You can then press the Esc key to de-activate the selected tool. • When browsing for resources, for example images, you can use wildcards to filter out specific resources in the selection dialog. For example: my_images_*.* *.jpg You can add objects directly in a Page or in a Story. Directly in page When you add an object directly in the Document or Page view, the object is rendered on all instances of the page definition, in the position where you add the object. Example 15 Objects added directly in a page You have a Story frame on the page and the Story in it overflows to a second instance of the page definition. This means that the object you add on the page definition is rendered on all instances of the page required to render the whole Story. In Story When you add an object in a Story, the object is rendered within a Story frame only once. The position that the object is rendered depends on: • Where you add it in the Story. • What comes before the object within the Story. • Where you place the Story frame(s). To add an object of custom size and position on a page 1 Select the Document view or the Page view. 2 Click the appropriate toolbar button to select the object type you want to add. 3 For images and overlays, browse to the image you want to add. For charts, follow the Create Chart wizard. For tables, enter data for the table in the Insert Table dialog. 4 Click and drag the object to the desired size and release the button. To modify the object, see Modifying the shape of objects. To add a Text area that grows freely with the content, click the Text toolbar button and single-click in the Document or Page view. To add an object of default size 1 Right-click in the Document, Page, or Story view where you want to add the object. 2 Select Insert and the object to create. To modify the object, see Modifying the shape of objects. To add an object from the clipboard Right-click in the Document, Page, or Story view and select Paste. You can copy and paste objects from other SSD, RTF, XHTML, LXF or TIFF documents by importing objects. See Importing objects. To add an image from the desktop or Windows explorer Drag the image file from the desktop to the Document, Page, or Story view.
