Deploying a web application to an open environment

To deploy a web application, you must first add the web application to the Web Applications folder and then connect the web application to the application domains to be accessed from the web application.

Adding a web application

Prerequisites

The management gateway that will deploy the WAR files must have:

•	Read access to the installation folder containing the WAR files.

•	Write access to the portal root on the Java application server.

Name requirements

The web application name must:

•	Only include ASCII characters (a-z, A-Z, 0-9).

•	Not include any white spaces.

•	Be unique within the application domain.

•	Be unique if you deploy several web applications to the same Java application server.

•	Not be the word applications.

To add a web application

1	Right-click the Web Applications folder and select New Web Application.

2	In the New Web Application dialog box, select the type of web application.

3	Enter a name for the web application. See Name requirements above.

4	Select the host for the management gateway that will deploy the WAR files.

5	In the Portal root box, enter the path to the directory on the Java application server to which the WAR files will be deployed. For example, for Apache Tomcat:

<TOMCAT_HOME>\webapps\

6	Click OK. The management gateway copies the WAR files to the portal root.

7	Make sure that all the WAR files in the portal root are unpacked by the Java application server, resulting in a separate folder for each WAR file. We recommend that you check the log files for the Java application server to verify that the files are properly unpacked.

For information about how to unpack WAR files, see the user documentation for the Java application server. For Apache Tomcat, the files may be unpacked automatically if you restart the Apache Tomcat service.

Note:

Unpacking WAR files might be time consuming.

Connecting the web application to an application domain

Prerequisites

•	All the WAR files in the portal root must be unpacked.

•	One web application can be connected to several application domains.

•	One application domain can be connected to one web application of each type. For example, to one StreamStudio and to one Ad Hoc and Reviewer.

To connect the web application to an application domain

1	In the Web Applications folder, right-click the web application and select Link Application Domain.

2	In the Available Application Domains area, select the application domain to which you want to connect the web application.

3	Click the arrow button to connect the web application to the application domain.

4	Repeat for each application domain to connect.
