Data transformation process reference

The data transformation process has two phases: compilation and execution.

Compilation

Compilation takes a source transformation and data template and produces a new transformation. During this phase, the user defined transformation rules are copied from the source transformation to the new transformation. If meta rules (recurse or enumerate) are used, these meta rules are transformed to a set of individual rules in the new transformation.

Execution

During the this phase the transformation processor implements the whole transformation based on following simple building blocks:

•	Data template tree traversal and XPath evaluation.

•	Element/Attribute/Text data evaluation.

•	Variable declarations.

•	Custom XPath functions.
