Defining transformations for Message data
When you have created a data template for Message data (see Creating data templates for Message data), data template nodes may be empty (no values defined) or contain static values. Nodes replicated from the Message data contain the static sample data defined in the Event, and nodes created in the Data template panel may contain static values or be empty.
To be able to transform the input data to the proper runtime data instance used in the document formatting process you must create a data transformation for the data template. If you do not, the output will only contain the static (or empty) values defined in the template.
You can define transformation rules for each template node separately, but that may be time consuming. Instead of defining rules for each node you can use meta rules (recurse or enumerate) on a node to automatically generate the rules for the entire sub tree below that node.
For example, you can use recurse on the message node to automatically generate the rules for the entire message sub tree (see Transformation for Message data using meta rule).
