Preparations
Since StoryTeller can work in either data template mode or Message mode, you must enable data template mode before you can start creating data templates and data transformations.
Data template mode might already be enabled for new designs in the Options dialog box. If not, you must enable data template mode manually for the current design.
To enable data template mode for all new designs
1
Select Tools > Options > Defaults > Data transformation.
2
Select Use data template.
To enable data template mode manually
Select File > Data > Enable Data template.
Data panels
To be able to work with data templates you must open the Data Template panel. This panel contains a tree representing a data template structure and a property grid displaying the properties for the selected template node.
To see data transformation rules associated with the selected data template node and its children you can also open the Data Transformation panel.
To see the a product of the currently specified template, transformation and sample data, you can also open the Data Instance panel.
To open the panels
Select View > Panels > Data Template, Data Transformation and Data Instance.
Show data panels only
When you are working with data templates and transformations, you can use a View option that only shows the data panels, and hides all other StoryTeller panels.
To only show data panels (toggle on/off)
Select View > Show only Data Panels.
