Using a Windows driver with arbitrary output connectors > Adding a virtual printer

Adding a virtual printer
You must add a virtual printer in Windows that you connect to Port Monitor. The printer will not only work for StreamServer output, it will also work for any Windows application. For example, if you print from Word, the output file is created in the specified spool folder. The format of the file depends on the drivers installed for the printer (PostScript, PCL6, etc.).
To add a virtual printer
(How to add a printer depends on your Windows version)
1
In the Control Panel, select Devices and printers.
2
Click Add a printer.
3
Click Local printer.
4
Click Create a new port and then select StreamServe from the drop-down list.
5
6
Output type = File.
Destination = Absolute path to the spool folder (e.g. C:\MyFolder). Take a note of this path since it corresponds to the SpoolFolder option in the custom WIN2 driver. Note that the spool folder must exist.
Select Add document name to filename created.
Select Add printer name to filename created.

8
The files delivered to the spool folder are named according to the following pattern:
<signature>_<jobname>_<printername>.dsi
The <signature> part is a random value containing date and time and <jobname> is the name of print job. Characters that are not allowed in filenames are removed from <jobname> and <printername>.
