About device drivers and tools
StreamServe device drivers
A number of native StreamServe device drivers are included in the installation and available in Design Center.
Each device driver consists of:
A driver file (*.drs), and any files referred from this driver file, for example encoding files (*.enc) and mapping files (*.map). The driver file contains the information that the StreamServer application needs to communicate with the device.
StreamServe device driver tools
You cannot modify the native StreamServe device drivers. If a customized device driver is required, you must add the new device driver as a Custom device resource in a resource set connected to the Platform.
OpenText provides the following tools (running on Microsoft® Windows®) for creating customized device drivers:
Windows Driver Tool – Used to create new StreamServe compatible Windows printer drivers. See Using the Windows Driver Tool.
Device Tool – Used to create and modify custom StreamServe device drivers in the Design Center resource set. See Using the Device Tool.
Upgrading customized device drivers
When you create a customized device driver, the device driver is based on the driver files included in the StreamServe installation. After upgrading to a later version or installing a hotfix, you should recreate your customized device drivers to ensure that any changes made to the driver files are included in the customized device drivers.
