Document definitions based Template Engine templates Using Template Engine to reuse an external layout In this scenario, a travel agency sends a confirmation email to new customers after their first contact. The confirmation email contains the customer name and a marketing message selected based on customer category. Andrew is in charge of the corporate graphical profile for the travel agency. When designing the email, Andrew wants to reuse an already prepared layout, created in his web development tool. Andrew sends the layout in HTML format to Diana, who is an OpenText consultant. Diana creates a Project that includes a Composition Center-enabled Template Engine Process. In the Process tool, she selects the HTML file as the template and defines a section intended for the marketing message. She then opens the HTML file and adds a reference to the defined section using the Template Engine syntax. Mary is a business user at the travel agency marketing department. In Composition Center, she creates a document definition based on the Template Engine template and adds the different versions of the marketing message to the section. Using Template Engine to automate document handling In this scenario, a B2B e-commerce site uses the StreamServe software to generate invoices and attach them to emails. Each invoice is attached in two formats – XML and PDF. Both attachments contain the same billing information and the same marketing messages. Depending of the frequency of the purchases, the receiving company can use either of the attachments. For example, if the company frequently buys a large amount of goods, the IT department can use the attached XML file to simplify the automation of their invoice handling. If the company only does occasional purchases, the purchasing department can handle the invoice manually via the PDF file. Diana, the OpenText consultant, creates a Project that contains two Processes – one StoryTeller Process and one Template Engine Process. Both Processes are prepared for being used as templates in Composition Center and both include sections for the marketing messages. Anna, a technical business user at the e-commerce site, uses Composition Center to add marketing messages. In this scenario, Anna creates two document definitions – one for the invoice in XML format (based on the Template Engine template), and one for the invoice in PDF format (based on the StoryTeller template). To ensure that the marketing messages reach the customers independently of delivery format, Anna adds the same marketing messages and rules to both document definitions.
